West Coast Artists Art Festival, January
Downtown Cathedral City’s scenic event lawn ups the ante each January with a spectacular variety of handcrafted paintings, sculptures, jewelry and more during the West Coast Artists Art Festival. This two-day outdoor art affair features fine art for every taste, from the traditional and classic to the modern and contemporary.
LGBT Days, Spring
This diverse celebration brings together the LGBT community and its allies for a fun-filled weekend every spring. Enjoy live music and dancing, events like a “Battle of the Bars” bartender competition and Sunday brunches. Also not to be missed is the LGBT Days Bed Race, where groups from across the Coachella Valley unleash their creativity to decorate a four-post bed, then race for the glory of first place.
Desert Glo Fest, May
Neon paint lights up the night in Cathedral City during the annual Desert Glo Fest, a colorful 5K walk/run. Before tackling the black light obstacle course, get the paint party started on the dance floor as neon colors fly at the Pre-Party. Find more ways to light up the night as you’re doused with more colors while making your way through the black light obstacle course or race course. After the fun run, the festivities – and the colors – fly as you dance the night away to DJs at the After Party.
Cinema Diverse, September
This annual LGBT film festival celebrates diversity at two iconic Coachella Valley theaters each September: the Camelot Theatre in Palm Springs and the Ultrastar’s Desert Cinema IMAX in Cathedral City. For four days, celebrate LGBT cinema through local, national and international shorts and features.
Autumn is in the air during Cathedral City’s FallFest, a celebration of the season complete with fall staples like a pumpkin patch, carnival rides, and a hay maze. Carve a pumpkin, strut your stuff in the costume contest, or play classic carnival games at this family-friendly event. Kids can enjoy the festival with nightly trick-or-treating, too.
Dia de los Muertos, October
The Mexican celebration of Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, finds an annual home in Cathedral City. Each year, memories of loved ones are celebrated at Desert Memorial Park during this cultural festival that features mariachi bands, folklorico dancing, arts and crafts and a community altar.
Hot Air Balloon Festival, November
Look up, in the sky! It’s a bird, it’s a plane—no, it’s a canopy of color from the annual Hot Air Balloon Festival! Cathedral City’s beautiful weather and clear skies create the perfect opportunity for seeing the oasis from above, and in November, visitors can do just that from the cozy basket of a hot air balloon. If you’d rather keep your feet on the ground, there’s still plenty to explore: nightly hot air balloon glows, concerts, jazz and wine dinners and hot air balloon races will keep your head in the clouds.
